The black family cat often sits here in the farmhouse porch, looking through the geraniums to the garden beyond.

Emma’s family have farmed here, at the top of the slopes to the Ironbridge Gorge, for over a hundred years. It still is a constant source of inspiration for her.

This is a view in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

I loved the trees reaching out from the undergrowth and thought that by using the complimentary colour it would add to the dynamics of the painting.

This image of me stealing apples from a neighbour's tree comes from an acrylic painting which featured in an exhibition called "The warp of memory". It seemed so daring at the time. And so high above the ground. And really naughty.

One of the many treasures owned and cared for by Shropshire's Wildlife Trust.

A place where once there were many busy hands creating charcoal from the pollarded trees, but where now there are just untouched trees and plants, birds, wildlife enthusiasts, and occasional artists.

This was a plant given to me at Christmas.

I wanted to convey its character by reducing it to basic shapes and bright colours. I like working in gouache because it gives a good flat surface and can be burnished or varnished if so desired; it is a versatile but underestimated medium.

I get great pleasure from floral subjects, since my work is usually of landscapes. The colourful, vibrant, narrow focus is such a contrast. These anemones are a good example. Their colours and shapes are a delight in themselves, but are made more entrancing by the way that they seem to be reflected in the design of the jug that holds them.

That jug has held so many flowers through its life, having been passed through several generations of my family.

The site of this vineyard has been here since Roman times, when Wroxeter boasted one of the largest garrison towns that ever existed in Roman Britain.

Now it's one of Shropshire's valued visitor centres, as well as being the source of some rather nice English wines.

The contrast between the connecting vines and the colourful lavender at this local vineyard is so attractive.

I always feel that this little corner of Shropshire is such a lovely place to paint, and in that I am not alone.
