Sunrise from a High Window.
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.75 Original - watercolour Betsy Smith Top of page | From high windows, the experience of early morning can be marvellous, just filled with emotion. With no hills or buildings to act as markers, everything sometimes seems to just fall into almost tangible layers of colour. This scene is typical of Betsy’s strong use of watercolours, emphasising their fluidity and transparency. It reflects her love of vibrant colour, and also a love of texture, which she developed and employed skilfully in fabric design, long before becoming a watercolourist. ![]() ... A1 | A1 |

Autumn Fields
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.75 Original - watercolour Betsy Smith Top of page | “I feel sure that the effects that seasonal colours have upon us all is immense, and yet so often subliminal, so that their influence goes unnoticed by many. To me, the shades and ranges of our seasons’colour are intense and all absorbing.“ Betsy using watercolours with accustomed strength, creating great depth and texture in this landscape from her imagination. ![]() ... Alhambra
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.60 Original - oil Maggie Humphry Top of page | I look forward to seeing Granada’s beautiful Moorish palace once more, one day. The Alhambra is surely one of the most magical places in the whole of Spain. The air seems drenched with the perfumes of jasmine and orange blossom. The trickling of water and the sound of the nightingales puts me in mind of the tales of the Arabian thousand and one nights. The constant croaking of the frogs from pools beneath the trees reminds me of my own pond at home. In this impression I have tried to capture the power of the many parts of the vast palace, and the rich colours of its immense brick walls. ![]() ... A6 | A6 |

Cloud Break
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.75 Original - watercolour Betsy Smith Top of page | The rays of light are thrown through the clouds towards the sea. The tones, textures and colours that they create are overwhelming in their power and their beauty. Betsy has again used her watercolours “from the shoulder, rather than from the wrist”, putting her energy and enthusiasm into capturing the mood of the moment. It’s no particular or specific place, but it is a place with sea and with hills, and with ambience. She hopes always that her pictures will stimulate people into remembering the feel of some place that they’ve known, rather than simply showing them one that she has. ![]() ... A1 | A1 |

Rocky Harbour

Harlech Castle
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.75 Original - watercolour Angela Jones Top of page | For me, both personally and as an artist, Harlech is one of the most attractive of castles in Wales, my family’s country. It stands out so proudly in the vast environment that surrounds it, and is so immensely a part of the landscape. It is strange to think that the sea lapped at its toes when it first was built. How the whole area must have changed over the millennia. ![]() ... A1 | A1 |

Dreaming Summer Light
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.75 Original - watercolour Betsy Smith Top of page | “This scene is not one that I painted to represent anywhere in particular. I simply wanted to capture the dreamlike qualities that surround us when the light is right, when colours seem to blend into a delicate weave.” Betsy has used watercolours with great energy again, emphasising their capacity to create textural and colour mixes that no camera can achieve. ![]() ... Wroxeter

Grazing
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.75 Original - oil Emma Jane Roberts Top of page | Emma has captured the gentle Shropshire scene which lies just feet from her door, with her father’s pedigree Holstein herd at work, doing what they do best - eat grass. Cows have grazed this field for many decades whilst Emma’s family have farmed it. It’s still known as “the allotments”, which is what it was used for during the First World War, helping to keep Broseley locals in good supply of basic needs. Now, it is green and quiet, as is so much of the county. As Emma says, “Shropshire is a well kept secret and is a beautiful backcloth on which to paint”. ![]() ... A1 | A1 |

Long Mynd in Winter
Milk white - hammered surface Price (no P&P charges) - £1.75 Original - watercolour Betsy Smith Top of page | “The sheer power and variety of Shropshire’s landscapes and countryside never cease to enthral and amaze me. I simply cannot express the profound experience that a sight like these great hills can give to me.” This landscape is a delightful example of Betsy using her watercolours in her distinctive and irrepressible style, allowing the might of the hills and their colours to truly make their mark. ![]() ...
