One of the many reminders from days gone by that are scattered across the county of Shropshire.
Much Wenlock was once the administrative centre of many small Shropshire towns. Now it's one of the main centres of tourism, with a host of old buildings, and some nice pubs, restaurants and cafes.

A delightful view of Captain the horse in his stable, with chickens fussing at his feet.

This working farm museum is one of Shropshire's many rural delights, and provides a boundless opportunity for artists and photographers, as well as for eager children (of all ages).

Named mainly for the gradient, but it could also be to do with the price of coffee.

Excellent bookshops and gorgeous clothes and jewellers along here. Truly a luxury shoppers' paradise.

This Lincoln scene is one of a trio that I painted for display in one of the city's coffee shops.

One of the many treasures owned and cared for by Shropshire's Wildlife Trust.

A place where once there were many busy hands creating charcoal from the pollarded trees, but where now there are just untouched trees and plants, birds, wildlife enthusiasts, and occasional artists.

The site of this vineyard has been here since Roman times, when Wroxeter boasted one of the largest garrison towns that ever existed in Roman Britain.

Now it's one of Shropshire's valued visitor centres, as well as being the source of some rather nice English wines.

The contrast between the connecting vines and the colourful lavender at this local vineyard is so attractive.

I always feel that this little corner of Shropshire is such a lovely place to paint, and in that I am not alone.

I look forward to seeing Granada’s beautiful Moorish palace once more, one day.

The Alhambra is surely one of the most magical places in the whole of Spain. The air seems drenched with the perfumes of jasmine and orange blossom.

The trickling of water and the sound of the nightingales puts me in mind of the tales of the Arabian thousand and one nights. The constant croaking of the frogs from pools beneath the trees reminds me of my own pond at home.

In this impression I have tried to capture the power of the many parts of the vast palace, and the rich colours of its immense brick walls.

The superb bridge has been drawn and painted innumerable times, but its grandeur never fails to attract more pencils and brushes. In her book, Maggie also has a picture of the Gorge's great red cooling towers.

Ironbridge itself is a delightful place to wander, to visit museums, and to eat.

“The sheer power and variety of Shropshire’s landscapes and countryside never cease to enthral and amaze me. I simply cannot express the profound experience that a sight like these great hills can give to me.”

This landscape is a delightful example of Betsy using her watercolours in her distinctive and irrepressible style, allowing the might of the hills and their colours to truly make their mark.

This great corn grinding machine which for ages was so hard-working is back in working order, and the great sails turn at times.

Its present owner has lavished many years of loving attention. There are few windmills in the dales of modern Shropshire, so Asterley's is extraordinarily special.

You may think that the wonkiness of the buildings is an effect of the style of this painting. I think the residents probably have bannister rails in all rooms.

The original is one of three that are hanging on the wall of one of Lincoln's coffee houses.

For me, both personally and as an artist, Harlech is one of the most attractive of castles in Wales, my family’s country. It stands out so proudly in the vast environment that surrounds it, and is so immensely a part of the landscape.

It is strange to think that the sea lapped at its toes when it first was built. How the whole area must have changed over the millennia.

This beautiful building has been captured in all its glory. The sky is a true Shropshire blue, and the kind of sky that people like to see in summer pictures.

Maggie felt that the Castle looked like a great ship, and that's how she delightfully describes it in "Maggie Humphry's Shropshire".
